Water abuse in Ablution(Wudu)

Yesterday Gulf News Reported(Link Here) from Dubai the shocking details of water abuse in the Mosques. The Report Says: Hidden cameras placed at three Dubai mosques have revealed the extent to which water is wasted from fast-flowing taps in wudu or ablution areas…… in 1997, the UAE’s per capita water consumption was pegged at about 500 liters per person per day. In 2010, this figure has risen to 550 liters per person per day. At the mosque, Patel was often met with a shrug and a stare when he tried to explain to the men around him performing ablutions that it would be wise to turn off the tap when not in use”

I bowed myself shamefully reading the story to see how far the modern Muslims deviated from the teachings of the beloved Messenger. Tradition shows us what a little amount of water He spent to make ablution and bathing. He also strictly warned against any excess usage of water even if we use water from a flowing river. Many traditions narrate that he used only a handful of water for ablution. This report exposes us how careless we are in following our great Messenger and his companions. Our predecessors were so cautious and god-fearing while making ablution as they were in prayers. Traditional Scholars says that if you seek concentration and piety while praying you need to be so while making ablution!

Friends! Where we are from those our fellow-Muslims? We have lost our restraint. We can no more control our own actions and we depend on mad machinery to control ourselves!

But what is striking here is the clear prediction by the beloved Messenger that there will be people in the society who do excess in ablution and prayers!(Ahmad,ABu Dawud,Ibnu Majah(RA)

O’ My Prophet, You have told the truth and we are the Witnesses. Peace and Blessing upon You , Your Family , Your Companions and upon us Your humbled subordinates.
